Fast of Esther
It is customary to fast the day before Purim in remembrance of the fast that was observed before the Jews attacked their enemies after the fall of Haman. Even though fasting before a battle seems counterintuitive, the idea was to demonstrate the belief that any victory in battle was a divine imperative and not dependent on military prowess, etc.
