In 2 nights we celebrate the holiday of Shavuot commemorating the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai. The keynote phrase for the occasion was the Israelites saying Naaseh V’Nishmah (we will do and we will listen). Recently the question was asked that after saying “we will do”, isn’t “we will listen” redundant?

One answer suggested that indeed, “we will do” pretty much says it all but the “we will listen” part refers to our willingness to study even after the practical part is taken care of, learning for learning’s sake, or as the expression goes – Torah Lishma. Accordingly our nation takes it upon itself to follow through on this commitment with all kinds of Torah study throughout this weekend.

Towards that end we are welcoming 5 young people from YU to provide a large portion of that learning together on top of the usual amount of learning that we do on Shabbat and Yom Tov. Please join us for as much of our programming as you can and no doubt you will emerge from the holiday strengthened and energized.

Additionally, we begin Bamidbar, the Book of Numbers, this Shabbat and we complete the mitzvah of the counting of the Omer.

Congratulations to Ariel Zaurov and Irina Roller for the Bar Mitzvah of their son Zach this weekend at the synagogue.

PLEASE reserve immediately if you are joining us for dinner Saturday night!
