In a relatively bland portion we have the procedure relating to the thanksgiving offering (Todah). The dominating feature of the sacrifice is that for every unit of chametz there are three units of matzah. Indeed, one of the reasons we have 3 Matzot on the seder table is as a symbol of this offering. The sages explain that a message is being conveyed here that for every unit of not so good in life, a person should be able to find 3 units of good, which will create a very different perspective in life.

We’re told that it’s a shame that in our silent devotion (Amidah) we focus so much more on the request part and seem to brush past the thanking God part. Indeed, we have become so inured to all the prodigious blessings of our lives that we tend to obsess when things don’t go smoothly and gloss over all the right things that happen.

Accordingly, let’s recognize the amazing event this past Wednesday evening celebrating Purim at TriBeCa Synagogue courtesy of Wendy Friedland, Stephanie Bianchi and an enormous assist from our staff of Dolores Wine and Alex Glass. There was the astonishing performance of our TriBeCa Torah players with artisanal food and drink and a fabulous turnout. As such it was a tremendous financial success because of that along with our sponsors.
