Mishlei/Proverbs   5:45pm

After hearing all the instructions regarding the tabernacle and its vessels Moses now calls for volunteers to contribute and construct. He uses the phrase “Asher Nisao Libo” -anyone whose heart lifts them-as describing the mindset called for in this endeavor. Nachmanides explains that this is a reference to the request to look inward and bring forth inner strengths and talents heretofore not apparent. After all we are talking about a people just recently freed from slavery with no particular skills or abilities. Still and all, Moses was confident that with the right attitude these people could transform themselves into a group capable of the finest carpentry, metallurgy, etc. that would create the magnificent structure called for at this time.

He goes on to insist that this was not just a one time reality but rather in every age and challenge the Jewish nation can find within itself the strength and ability to overcome and succeed. Especially in the area of learning and practice when we have such wonderful resources, we all should have the confidence to grow and excel in all areas of Jewish life.

This Shabbat is also Parshat Shekalim containing the first of the 4 special readings taking us from the season of Purim to Passover. It presents the commandment to contribute a half shekel to the temple to fund the daily Tamid sacrifices.

George Parker In Memoriam:

We invite you to join us at the Tribeca Synagogue on Friday evening, March 8 for a special family Shabbat service and kiddush sponsored by Nancy Aaronson and Perry Parker in honor of the Yahrzeit of Perry's father, and truly one of the founding fathers of our shul, George Parker, who passed away last year at the age of 92.  George always enjoyed a good celebration, and we want the service and the dinner afterwards to be a joyous celebration of the downtown community that he helped to build.  All are welcome; RSVPs are requested so we can order and prepare the right amount of food and desserts.  We hope you will join us!  Services will begin at 5:45 pm, dinner to follow.

Toby Turkel will be featured in an art show in Amsterdam!

We are looking for sponsors for our Purim Gala of March 20th featuring dinner and a shpiel!
