Still aglow from last night’s wonderful event allow me to reprise my comments then, along with a brief recounting of how it all went:
The main message emanating from this week’s portion is the importance of proper perspective. On the one hand you have the spies who could only see the challenges involved in settling the land of Israel and the potential pitfalls. On the other you had Caleb and Joshua who recognized the beauty of the land and the incredible potential of overcoming those challenges. Eli Weiss described some of the unique challenges of our structure but made it clear that overcoming those challenges would be our legacy to be passed down to the next generation, just like we are the beneficiaries of the previous generation’s dedication. Last night was a glorious beginning to this campaign but just the start!
Still and all we are so grateful to our benefit committee for putting together a spectacularly fun and enjoyable evening - Sharon Nazarzadeh, Eitan Goldman, Toby Turkel, Beth Lieberman, Jennifer Kaplan, and Wendy Friedland. Extra special thanks goes out to Henry Meer from City Hall Restaurant for donating the space. Incredible energy combined with excellent food and drink for an exciting way to usher in the summer season and our financial goals were exceeded as well.

And now on to the latest In Our Family:
We congratulate Sylvain and Amy Cappell for the lovely wedding of their son Jacob to Audrey Simons this past Sunday and wish the new couple Torah blessings as they begin their life together. We anxiously anticipate the wedding of our couple Jonathan Rodan and Elizabeth Kierstead this coming weekend as they share their simcha with the congregation this Saturday at his aufruf. We are also thrilled to announce the engagement of Alice Silverstein, sister of our long time member Susan Silverstein, to Robert Mark. Alice was recently recognized in the YU Alumni Magazine for her incredible accomplishments in her area of scientific research. Finally we note that today is the last day of kaddish for Paul Goodman for his mother of blessed memory and we wish him consolation at this challenging stage in his life.
Going back a couple of weeks we recall the fantastic experience of having the young people from YU’s Torah Tours enrich our Shavuot and here are their parting thoughts to us:
Dear TriBeCa Synagogue,
Thank you so much for having us for Shavuot. From the Friday night Kabbalat Shabbat to the Monday afternoon services, we had an incredible time with the community. We were immediately welcomed with open arms, and the warmth of the community made us feel right at home. Your community is one of a kind, and its dedication to Judaism and thirst for Torah is inspirational. While we came to give, we ended up receiving so much more than we ever expected. The thought provoking discussions, the delicious meals, the tours around Manhattan, and the friendly environment greatly enhanced our Shavuot. Thank you all for opening your hearts and for giving us an unforgettable holiday.
