In Shelach, the spies began their report on the land with a devastating term: Efes/אפס, meaning "it's nothing". In other words, while they had to concede there were some wonderful aspects to the land, their conclusion was that it wasn't worth it. So, in a nutshell, the Torah presents one of the most destructive mindsets of human nature. Indeed, when we look back on our day, we tend to remember only that which went wrong, rather than the dozens of things that had to go right for us to function normally.
How different our perspective on life would be if we would only take a moment to reflect on our blessings, even taking just a short break from focusing on our problems!
