We are still in the heart of Purim and we hope that everyone is truly enjoying the day. All its mitzvot are designed to ensure that everyone is experiencing simcha-the wine and feast or gifts to the poor so that they have the wherewithal to properly celebrate or a gift to a friend to promote social harmony.
This week we read the portion of Tzav which begins with the olah sacrifice, which the midrash contends is dedicated to purifying our thoughts.
We wish a hearty mazel tov to our member Harvey Herbert whose niece recently gave birth to a girl and we will do the naming ceremony at the synagogue this Shabbat. He is sponsoring the kiddush in honor of Lisa Lee-Herbert and Daniel Fuchs of Chicago.
Harvey will also be making his next archaeological presentation at our Joshua class this Tuesday at 7pm. He will be covering the recent discoveries of Ebal and its altar along with observations of Shiloh and Givon, both places where the tabernacle stood.
The Women's Study Group will begin discussing the Haggadah this Saturday
