In Chayei Sarah we have the first mention of the act of burial and many of our traditions derive from this description of the process. We start with the emphasis of a dignified ritual which gives deference to the fact that the body was the wrapping of the soul for all its time on earth. Hence, even after life, the body has to be treated with the utmost of honor and care.
The book of Proverbs concludes with the momentous tribute to the Jewish woman called "Woman of Valor" אשת חיל. In our siyum on the book this summer, we noted that it is our tradition that these verses are attributed to Abraham and his eulogy to our first Matriarch. May she remain a shining inspiration to our generation and beyond.
