In Parshat Beshalach, specifically 14:16, we have one of the more eye opening Divine instructions: "Why cry out to Me, speak to the Israelites and go forward!" Namely, in a terrifying situation where all hope seems lost and the only recourse should be prayer, God says it was actually time for action. And, of course, the faith that God would assist them with their efforts.

Maybe this is the combination we are looking for in these difficult times. An invisible menace seems to lurk in every corner and can spring upon us at a moments notice. Nevertheless, we have to be confident that, with the appropriate protocols, we can embrace life secure in God's protection. It can't be worse than having the Egyptian army bearing down from one side and blocked by the Red Sea on the other!

Today is Tu B'Shvat which technically is the new year for trees but is dedicated to celebrating the wonderful fruits of the land of Israel. In terms of the calendar, it is the date that trees emerge from their dormancy and spring to life. Their xylem and phloem are activated by the change of seasons from the extreme winter  (קור) to the milder version (חורף) so that real spring can't be too far behind!

Congratulations to our longtime devoted members Ken and Denise Rosenblum for the birth of their first grandchild! A daughter was born to their son and daughter in law, Larry and Sara, this past Tuesday.

Congratulations to Ora Gelberg who celebrated her 90th birthday with friends from the congregation this past Tuesday
