Tonight is the 8th and final night of Chanukah. In the morning we will complete the reading of the dedication of the Mishkan (Tabernacle) with the expression Zot Chanukat HaMizbeach (this completes the dedication...) and hence the nickname this day gets of "Zot Chanukah". And as the number 8 always hints at going beyond the norms of nature, the sages have attached much kabbalistic significance to the occasion.
On Shabbat we will read the portion of Miketz which almost never occurs on a non Chanukah Shabbat so the haftarah that will be read will be an anomaly. The portion itself emphasizes the unpredictability of life with Joseph catapulting from jail to viceroy in a flash. Let's draw hope that the challenging situation of the past year can change to the better in similar dramatic fashion.
The TriBeCa Synagogue congratulates Rabbi and Mrs. Glass for the birth of their newest granddaughter this week to Elke and Elazar Bronstein.
Due to the extreme weather Downtown Minyan will not be convening this Shabbat and all Shabbat services will be held indoors this weekend. Also, being mindful of the escalating Covid situation we will be strengthening our protocols so please contact Rabbi Glass at rabbi@tribecasynagogue.org to announce your intention of attending if he hasn't contacted you in advance of Shabbat.
