In Lech Lecha we have the first phases of Abraham evolving into the most influential monotheist in history. While there were many great monotheists previous to him like Noah, Shem and Eber etc., only Abraham devoted his life to reaching out and making the effort to change humanity. And even though many of those he influenced eventually dissipated, the most important person he influenced, namely himself, became the force capable of creating a tradition that survives and thrives to this day 3500 years later.

So while it is praiseworthy to be motivated to reach out and positively influence those around us, the most important goal should be what we become through this process, and the legacy we can form along the way.

NOTE: The Downtown Minyan will again be joining us and they are committed to remaining outdoors on Saturday mornings. Efforts are in process to obtain the kind of heaters that will make remaining outdoors comfortable at least until the end of the year. We hope to have them in place by the following weekend but for this Saturday that will not be in case. The temperature is predicted to be in the low 40’s so if you plan on attending please dress accordingly.

Weekday services will move indoors for the duration of the fall/winter.

 Virtual Synagogue News:

We express our deepest appreciation to Dr. Roslyn Bernstein for her fascinating presentation this past Sunday on the Shmooze. However, due to technical difficulties we are postponing this coming Sunday’s presentation to next Sunday (11/7).

Havdalah/Kumzitz - We are thrilled to announce Basya Shechter of Pharaoh’s Daughter will make a small performance to energize our Havdalah celebration this Saturday night at 7pm!
