This Shabbat is called Shabbat Shuva, the Sabbath of Repentance, as it takes place during this season of repentance, the 10 Days of Penitence between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. While we know the sages tell us that our lives are in the balance, Maimonides goes a step further. He says that just like we should consider our status as depending on whether one good deed or bad deed could tip the scale, we should consider the entire world as equal in its merits and demerits. Thus one act on our part could shape the destiny of the universe for 5781!
All this points to the awareness we must have of our responsibility to ourselves and the community, hopefully making us extra careful in ALL our actions throughout this auspicious period.
The parsha this week is Haazinu, a profound poem calling heaven and earth as witnesses to Moses' last address to the Israelite nation.
The Downtown Minyan joins us this Shabbat and we request RSVP's asap to monitor attendance: rabbi@tribecasynagogue.org
This will be the last Shabbat of zoom programming for some time due to the upcoming holidays. After the holidays we will restructure the virtual synagogue to adapt to the changing times.
All Zoom classes will continue uninterrupted.
