This week we begin Bamidbar, the Book of Numbers, which is always the last portion read the Shabbat before Shavuot, the holiday celebrating the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai. Clearly this isn't a coincidence and one of the more direct ways to understand this arrangement is by taking note that the main activity we will read about is the census, or counting, of the Israelites. The expression used for the act of counting in English is literally "lift the head" of every Jew, which hints that by being counted, everyone is important. So in advance of our recommitting to the Torah, it is essential that everyone feel they are needed for our historic mission.

Today is the 42nd day of the Omer.

Tonight is Yom Yerushalayim, Jerusalem Day, celebrating the reunification of the city of Jerusalem at the culmination of the 6 Day War.

Saturday we bless the new month of Sivan and the Molad is Friday, May 22nd at 11:42am with 13 Chalakim.

Sunday is Rosh Chodesh Sivan.

Prepared kosher food is now being distributed daily at 504 Grand Street Monday through Friday between 1pm and 2pm

The Rebbetzin with Assemblyperson Yuh-Line Niou of the 65th District.
We are grateful to Ms. Niou for this, and also for the masks she delivered to distribute.
Contact Rabbi Glass if you are in need.
